I believe we have the power to create our own happiness. I believe the real magic in the world is done by humans. I believe normal life is extraordinary.

on ice

Snowladyburrrrr. we were pummelled with a load of rain and ice, followed by snow last night. it actually made for a great evening. our power went out at 5:00pm saturday and wasn’t back on until 10:00am sunday. it was really kind of nice. no tv, no computer, no lights. just candles, quiet and good company. deeann, ren and i sat around, read books, talked, went outside, took pictures, made a snowlady and enjoyed the calmness that the storm brought.

check out the pictures. good fun, crazy storm.

alaska!!

Woooohoooo!! We finally purchased our plane tickets!

We’ve been thinking about going to Alaska for some time now and it’s finally in the bag. It’s been a year and a half since we’ve done a serious backpacking trip — so we are really looking forward to this. We’ll be spending the last 10 days of July up north, hoping to be living out of our packs for roughly 6-7 days. Ren, our hermano, is going to be up there at a family wedding so when we get up there he will be ready to pack up and head for the mountains.

Niether DeeAnn or I have been there so this trip will be a load of fun. So now we scope out a hostel, make our plans, gather our gear and jump a plane for North Country. Can’t wait!

oooo....alaska.

jesus camp?

February 21st, 2007 | just stuff, movies, news | chris | 1 comment

Ren and I watched the documentary Jesus Camp last night.  Quite disturbing to be honest.  In many ways taking the same mentality of some foreign countries and “arming” the children with the “weapons” of God.  Very much an “us against them” mentality.  Not to mention the very ironic statements made by Evangelical pastor Ted Haggard.

To be sure I don’t run my mouth on this subject I want to point you in the direction to another blog that responded very well to the movie.  Pete, blogger behind Living in America, actually wrote a very good post in response to this movie.  Take a minute to check it out.

flippin’ cell phones!

February 20th, 2007 | just stuff, life | chris | 0 comments

holy crap! what a headache.

we fell in love with cingular. it was a beautiful thing…until we found out we had absolutely NO service at our home. according to cingular, it’s the city’s fault (which i actually believe). either way, the people at cingular were very nice and gave us everything back, including activation. whew!

and finally, after going back and forth between this carrier and that we ended up in the verizon store. luckily the guy asked where we work, and finally after three years of working for the university, my wife’s job may possibly have an awesome perk. so we got a great deal on phones and we even get a percentage off of our monthly bill.

aahhh. now we can breath easy, not to mention use our cell phones at home.
