it’s finally here. deeann and i have decided we are moving to portland, oregon.

no, we did not sell our house. no, we did not find anyone to rent. deeann has been hired by a travel nursing agency. these agencies provide hospitals with your resume and all other needed documents to be hired on short-term contracts. she will still be working in the ICU, however depending on the contract she may be going from surgical ICU to medical ICU to the ER to wherever else they may need her. it’s a little nerve racking but it will really be a great experience for her. mostly though, being in a new hospital environment is the biggest fear. anyways, the agency will either put you in their housing and pay for rent and utilities or you can find your own place and receive a housing stipend. this is how we are making the move possible while we continue to make payments on our home here.

Western Culinary Institute as for myself, we are finishing the admissions process for me to attend Western Culinary Institute, Le Cordon Bleu Program. i was planning to attend portland state university and study graphic design, then i decided to apply for WCI just to see what happened.

we’re both very excited and nervous to be in a new place. this move has been a long time coming and we really look forward to new experiences. it’s hard to leave friends and family, especially when they don’t really understand why we would go. our motives are completely selfish. we want to experience people and places we wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to experience. we live a sheltered life here. we are so very thankful for that and even more thankful to the people who continue to make that possible, but at a certain point you need to decide if you want to look at life through just one lens or through the lenses of different cultures and experiences. not that portland, oregon is going to give us the experience of all sorts of different cultures but simply stepping out of the comfort we find here will stretch us. not everyone will understand that, and that’s ok. but just because it isn’t understood, doesn’t mean we have something to prove or something to explain before we go. like i said, our motives are selfish.

wow. i really got into some crap there. sorry. as i mentioned before, this has been a long time coming and if you give me a chance to think things over and over and over and over, this is what happens.

anyway, we’ve got a lot to do in the next few weeks. we plan to leave mid to late october. we will know in the next week or so when exactly it will be. please keep us in your thoughts. a lot needs to happen between now and then. we are getting rid of the majority of our stuff, so stay tuned if you need anything. i’ll be posting everything we will be giving away. we’ll be having a garage sale at my parents place with my sister and pete and everything else will be given away. all we are taking out to oregon is our kitchen and our clothes.

also, if anyone is interested in a road trip let us know. the more the merrier. ;)
