a bit concerned

not that this is putting me over the edge, i’m far from it, but i’ve been trying to read and learn more about john mccain’s v.p. pick, sarah palin. i’m a bit concerned, these being just a few examples.

from an article from treehugger.com:

she(palin) believes that climate change is not man-made and her opposition to the polar bear’s listing as a threatened species.

this, among many other things worry me. much of what i’ve read doesn’t quite sound revelutionary or different than what we’ve experienced in the past 8 years.

i have hope.

my brother, ahren, and his girlfriend, anna, is coming to town on monday. we are really looking forward to having them in town. it seems like the last 2 or 3 years every time i see them it is for a quick weekend or even day visit. they’ll be landing monday late morning and leaving sunday morning, so we’ll have them for almost a week. probably the most time i’ve spent with them in a few years.

we’ve got a few plans: camping, eating, drinking from a different local brewery every night of the week, showing them my school and everything else that makes portland portland.

stay tuned for pictures and videos. i’m sure they’ll be good.

this past weekend was no ordinary weekend for deeann and i. it wasn’t a normal weekend for our close friends ren & rebecca. this past saturday they were married at her parents acreage in wisconsin, surrounded by 50 of their closest friends and family. it was a wonderful day celebrating these two amazing people.

in addition to being in wisconsin for the weekend, we spent the week in iowa visiting our families. we spent some time with deeann’s parents and had the opportunity to celebrate her dad’s birthday with a surprise visit from her sister, who lives in arizona. we went to the fair and consumed our fair share of food on a stick…sausage, corn-brat(similar to corndog), italian sandwich, fresh lemonade, pulled pork, and much more. we then made our way to iowa city to spend some time with a few friends and to hang out with my sister and brother-in-law. after that we continued down the interstate towards davenport to see my parents and our pup taylor. we had a great time eating, watching olympics, and playing with the dogs. then we went up to wisconsin, but i already told you about that.

it was a great week away. now we gear up to have some more visitors to portland!
for pictures of the week go here for our time with family and here for our time with ren & rebecca.

this past weekend deeann and i went with a couple of friends to the pickathon indie roots music festival. it was such a great time! the event was on pendarvis farm in happy valley, oregon. a few thousand people came just for a day or for the whole weekend. we were there from friday through sunday evening. if you were staying, you just bring your tent into the woods, follow the trail and put your stakes in a spot that looks good to you. there were four different stages going throughout the day, so there was no shortage of great tunes.

a good time was had by all.
here is a video from the pickathon website. stay tuned for an edited video of my own and be sure to check out the pictures from the weekend.
