another one for the green team. new york city has decided to replace there current fleet of taxi cabs with an army of hybrids. in fact, some reports saying that some of the models they will be using will be the toyota prius and the luxurious lexus rx 400h. this is supposed to be an immediate change to be finished by 2012, replacing the existing fleet of 13,000.

“Implementing tougher standards for the more than 13,000 taxis in this city will provide the same clean air benefits as removing 32,000 privately owned cars from our streets.” … “The benefits are going to be felt by generations of New Yorkers. Going hybrid will shrink the city’s carbon footprint,” said Mayor Bloomberg.
